Title: An Introduction to the .NET Micro Framework and “The Internet of Things”

The .NET Micro Framework is an implementation of .NET for devices that are resource constrained. In this session, we’ll explore some of the technical details behind the .NET Micro Framework, take a look at some .NET Micro Framework devices, and get some hands on with some affordable devices that you can use right away. We’ll show you how any .NET developer can learn to program embedded devices. We’ll also talk a little bit about “The Internet of Things” and how you can get started experimenting with connected devices. We’ll even have some devices on-hand for you to try out along with raffling off 15 FEZ Panda boards that were donated by GHI Electronics!

Speaker: Charles Stacy Harris III

Charles Stacy Harris III - Is a Technology Architect with the Microsoft Technology Center in Southfield, MI. Stacy has been part of Microsoft's field services organization since 1992. In that time he has developed a wide range of software including device drivers for custom hardware, customer service applications, e-commerce web sites, prototypes for advanced aircraft instrumentation and was even on loan to the Microsoft Cluster Server development team for a short time. Stacy has a degree in theoretical mathematics and is entirely self-taught in software development. His first programming was at the age of 12 when his father bought him a book on 8080 and Z-80 assembly language, but because his family couldn't afford a computer, he wrote all of his code on paper and ran it in his imagination. Shortly after that he moved to a 6502 CPU on a KIM-1 microcomputer kit that belonged to his best friend's dad. Here he learned to key in hex op-codes directly into memory and had his first true introduction to debugging. To wind down from long days of software design and development, Stacy enjoys spending as much time as possible with his family. He also enjoys photography, bicycling, studying French and Italian, and of course writing more code!

Speaker: Gus Issa

Gus Issa is the founder and lead developer of GHI Electronics LLC. Before getting into .NET Micro Framework (NETMF), he conceived many devices to make developers' lives easier. After learning of NETMF, he quickly became enthralled. Since 2008, he's been nurturing NETMF and it's uses by developing hardware and software. Seeing the possibilities NETMF can offer hobbyists as well as it did for professionals, a new product line called FEZ (Fast & Easy) was born. He is a member of the NETMF core tech team and author of Beginners’ Guide to NETMF, an open-source e-book. For Gus, embedded system development is a passion. He believes in the countless solutions that electronics can provide. Combining experience, fun and belief, he has always enjoyed sharing his knowledge with the community through his involvement with TinyCLR, exhibiting at electronic conventions and speaking/participating at User Group meetings.
